Like last year, we will use this event to recognize the multiple achievements of our members from the 2023-24 academic year, including the 2nd annual Legacy Award

The award honors one chapter member who consistently represents NFA values in service on behalf of colleagues in areas such as academic freedom, shared governance, employee rights, collective bargaining, etc. Besides a desk award and framed certificate, the honoree will also receive a $500 stipend.

 SHARED GOVERNANCE

NFA hosting statewide town hall on shared governance

Dr. Michael DeCesare

Dr. Michael DeCesare

The Nevada Faculty Alliance will host Dr. Michael DeCesare, a nationally recognized expert on academic governance, in a Zoom town hall to present an overview of the American Association of University Professor's established standards of governance in higher education during a virtual town hall on April 17th. Open to faculty,  administrators, regents, and legislators, the event is designed to help stakeholders understand how to protect shared governance in a changing environment.

As a senior program officer in the American Association of University Professors' Department of Academic Freedom, Tenure, and Governance, Dr. DeCesare is an authority on the principles set forth more than five decades ago in the AAUP's Statement on Government of Colleges and Universities, which became a foundation of the American higher education system.

The town hall will be held at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, April 17th on Zoom. To register, please visit https://nevadafacultyalliance.org/event-5649337

 GOVERNANCE & ADVOCACY

Department Chair evaluations commencing

TMCC-NFA will be conducting the annual evaluation of department chairs from April 15th through April 26th in compliance with the TMCC-NFA Contract. Academic faculty members will receive email instructions for submitting an evaluation of their respective chairs at that time. The evaluations are completely confidential, and no identifying information will be linked to the submitted evaluations.

The intent of the evaluation is to provide feedback to the department chairs that will highlight areas of accomplishment and areas needing improvement based on the department chair's duties defined in Article 10 of the TMCC-NFA Contract. The premise of the evaluation is to promote the growth of the chair.

TMCC-NFA officer nominations sought

Terms for all TMCC-NFA Chapter officers will expire on June 30th of this year, and nominations are sought from all chapter members in good standing. The four officers are president, vice-president, secretary, and treasurer.

Nominations will be accepted from April 8th through April 19th. All members will receive an email at that time with a link to a form for nominations. Once nominations are collected and verified, the members will subsequently receive an electionbuddy.com email to securely vote between April 22nd and May 3rd.

The newly-elected individuals will take office on July 1, 2024. Their terms will run until June 30, 2026. Outgoing officers will support the new officers for at least the next year.
